Pike Fishing Outing – Saturday, May 31st, 2025
Join us for a fun and relaxed day of pike fishing on Saturday, May 31st, 2025, starting at Noon! This event is perfect for beginners, with a short walk out to the fishing spot from shore, making it an easy outing for all skill levels. The location will be shared with registrants but is within an hour's drive from Calgary.
Expect plenty of action on the water, as we’re hoping for a repeat of last year’s success — with a high chance of catching a pike or two, even if it’s your first time casting. The pike here are relatively small, easy to handle, and a lot of fun to reel in! Your registration fee of $5 covers a bite-proof leader and a colorful pike fly to get you started. If you'd like, you can pick up a couple of extra flies (large leeches or similar work well). A 5-6 weight rod or heavier is ideal, with floating line, since the water isn’t too deep and the pike love to hang out in the shallows.
For safety, bring a long-handled hook remover if you have one (we’ll also have some on hand), as pike have sharp teeth. We’ll start with a quick meeting in the parking lot, get everyone set up with gear, and then it’s off to the fishing grounds! We may even get lucky and catch a walleye or two!
What to bring:
Extra set of clothes (just in case)
Sunscreen & bug spray
Wading staff or walking sticks (for an easier walk)
Hat & sunglasses
Net, nippers, and hemostat (if you have them)
Water and snacks
Looking forward to seeing you there and kicking off the warm-weather fishing season!
